Roads 02:59
Roads Walking roads, don't know where I've been Trying to find my way So many roads, nothing is planned Takes me half the day Every direction leads somewhere new Every road takes me back to you One more glance leaves me wanting more That's what you're here for That's what you're here for So take my hand and walk with me To places not yet seen Find that place where you want to be Manifest your dream So walk alone or with someone new Try to find your way So many roads, surely one's for you Take this time and stray We only have today

Constellations split the sky tonight Lightning flashes, pale then bright If you look up, you just might see the moon. But if you stare at the moon too long, She will find you out. And if you look at your lover wrong, It will fill you with doubt. Take the road less traveled by, Like the poet said Let the moonlight be your guide Past the headstones and the dead Walk a mile, walk it back Tell your lover that she’s off track What it is you think you lack, Let it rise like the moon. You’re a star gleaming in my eye. You and I will never say goodbye. Born apart, alone we’ll die, and rise like the moon.

She was taking back the night. Hid her motives out of sight. Lit the room by candlelight, So bright, she knew what she was doing. She liked to say she was a mystic Some people thought she was twisted If there was a curse, she would lift it, Dispel it, make you think she was fooling. Oh, how she cried, how she cried, for no reason. Oh, how she lied, you know she lied. Magic treason. There was a kinder side to her. She liked to tell you who you were. She’d take your money, or what for, Push the door to the cave of your longing. Then she’d forget that you were there, Leave you lusting for a prayer, Or for some reason for her to care But, no fear, it was a movie you were wrong in. (chorus) She roams the woods now in the dark She’ll sing you songs just like a lark Until there’s no way you can work Or park your love in neutral. She will haunt your darkest dreams. She will ply you with her schemes. Nothing with her is as it seems – Only the means to something less than truthful. Oh, how she cried, how she cried, for no reason. Oh, how she lied, you know she lied. Oh, how she lied, you know she lied. Oh, how she lied, you know she lied. Magic treason.

Walk into the light, Even if you are lonely. We can make it right. This is for your ears only. Follow the breadcrumbs to my heart. Whisper the words as they come. This is the way into my heart. Music is where memory comes from. Sing ‘til your voice gives out Strum ‘til your fingers are sore Music is what you’re about Music is what your life’s for Write ‘til your hands feel the glory Love ‘til your body’s asleep Make out of this your own story. Hold close the loved ones you keep.

Love Letters 03:34
In a box of mahogany With a broken lock and a missing key I found his letters to her. He wrote of passing things, College pranks and family flings Imagining her with him there. But the letters that went missing Told a sadder story still: Nothing that an apology Or absence couldn’t fill. Sorry, he said he’s sorry, Never spelling out what for, Trying to keep that open door. Sorry, the truth is in between the lines, In the shadows of her eyes, And it isn’t very kind. I saw her broken then In ways that time would gently mend. I saved his letters to her. Dreaming of his love and hers, Cutting wounds now all a blur, Masking the lovers they once were. But the letters that went missing Don’t matter anymore – He picked up where he left off, Correspondence restored. Sorry, his private story, Hides whatever reason why Letting her tears slowly dry. Sorry, he said he’s sorry, And that distance kept them close, ‘Til he won what he loved most. Decades passed. The kids grew up. But the die was cast On this tender love. Sorry, he says he’s sorry. The bond was weakened from the start. Now, they’ll both grow old apart. Sorry, he still says sorry. And truth cannot bear the weight. And it’s sad, but it’s too late.

Didn’t know what you’d say when you walked in Didn’t know what you’d think when I poured that gin. Doesn’t matter what I think, Don’t matter what I say. I’m sober and I’ve you to thank today. Know what this looks like now: a sad, sad sight No, I am not Okay, been up all night. All right, shut the light when you leave. I got nothing else up my sleeve. And one last thing before you go: What’s in this glass you’ll never know. Our time together is short, you’re going away. This bottle’s the last, I swear. Why don’t you stay? Doesn’t matter what I think Don’t matter what I say I’m sober and I’ve you to thank today. Today Today Today Today

Picking notes on my classical guitar, His Sundowners taking hold He smiled as if he knew that I might falter, Just as my voice grew bold Singing songs for him, in the light Four sterile walls holding back the night Forgive me, Father You do not recognize The lightness of my hand The tenor of my voice Forgive me, Father I have failed to share The music in my bones The music already there The music already there I lie beside his bed as night turns into day His breathing just a whisper I wonder silently if he'll go out this way His breathing stops and my eyes blur. Singing songs for him, in the light Four sterile walls holding back the night Forgive me, Father You do not recognize The lightness of my hand The tenor of my voice Forgive me, Father For I have failed to share The music in my bones The music already there The music that’s everywhere

Missing You 02:54
I was falling from grace. You held me tight. Looked into my face Said I’d be alright Now that you’re gone, I don’t know why, I can’t carry on, Even though I try. Tears sting my eyes. I don’t know why, I don’t know why. You always knew just what to say You could read me on cue I wouldn’t know night from day If it wasn’t for you All I had were dreams You understood Never had the means But you said I could

Inspired by a podcast by Mark Nepo Whales live in the deep. They breathe under water in their sleep. Their minds, wakeful and free, Raise souls well beyond the sea. A monk seeks his teacher’s eye. He passes a wounded warrior by. His heart and his mind can’t keep Accord with the soul of the deep. Ego trips and falls. Lovingkindness calls. Mysteries soothe in sleep, Waking our minds to the soul of the deep. Breathe and be set free. Plunge deep and know the sea. Then teach your lonely heart to heal. Swim with the feelings that you feel. Transcend the rhythm of the waves. Transcend dreamy nights into days. Then float like the whales fast asleep. Embrace the silence of the deep. Ego trips and falls. Lovingkindness calls. Mysteries soothe in sleep, Waking our minds to the soul of the deep. Waking our hearts to the soul of the deep. Waking with love to the soul of the deep.
